Ectopic humoral syndromes are caused by the bioactive substances produced by the neoplasm (Fig. 21.5) and secreted into the systemic circulation. The substances reach the target organs where they induce responses, which in turn cause the clinical syndrome(s). This outcome could be classified as an endocrine mechanism.
